When Pablo Casal, generally considered the pre-eminent cellist of the first half of the 20th century, was in his 80s and was asked why he still practiced several hours every day, he replied: “Because I think I am making progress.”
I think that illustrates my point and to me a near-perfect shave in the morning is such a satisfying way to start the day…

Since I've been using a straight razor I have had a 4 pass shave every time, never less and i always try for more bbs than the previous shave.
I have got my throat pretty much smooth but I find under my nose and chin a challenge.- - Steve

I get a much closer shave if I go two to three days between shaves. But my beard growth is slow anyhoo.

Thanked: 171Yes, I noticed that thread where people say they get a closer shave if they don’t shave every day.
It never occurred to me to shave only every second or third day and, although I never felt that I had a stronger than average beard growth, I don’t care for the morning stubble and use it as a perfect excuse for a shave.
To me, this morning or two day stubble is neither fish nor fowl - neither a beard nor clean-shaven - and it needs to be gone or given ten days to become something resembling a real beard.

We have discussed this whole BBS thing in the past.
I can shave with an electric razor and get a BBS shave but a few hours later the stubble is there. On the other hand I can shave with a straight and there is this very fine stubble here and there and 2 hours later it's gone.
I have come to the conclusion BBS isn't an arbiter of a super great shave. It has more to do with the method used and your skin type and beard type.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

This has gone slightly sideways from my origional intention, lets try it again.
If I shave every day a one pass is enough for myself. If I wait 3 or 4 days I need 3 or 4 passes.
Up to a certain point.
So however I decide to do it it comes out to about 1 pass a day.

One pass ATG is all I do, irrespective of number of days I haven't shaved. If the razor is sharp enough it is all you need.
