It is a beautiful blade, but it looks like you're shaving with a scimitar Paul. Not sure I’d be comfortable using that blade when the winds are blowing strong.

What is that, a forest axe? Just kidding, but that thing looks huge.

Something I have been thinking of is having a Gold Dollar cut down to a shorty so I have a more maneuverable razor. I have a short shavette and I have no problems at all getting close in problem areas with it. But that's me.
Why not? It will be fun! Since they are so cheap, get at least 4 or 5 of them, and try different stuff. You will probably overheat the first one you mess with. If you ever see the Blue Stain of Death on the edge, just toss that one, and try again. Keep your razor cool. Remember, the edge heats up much faster than the rest of the razor because it is so thin. You will learn that with the first one, then you will know.

In addition to cutting off the toe end of the razor, consider doing another one by cutting from the heel end, in essence making it a long shank shorty. You will probably like that better than a regular shorty.

I will need to get a new rotory tool or something with a long shank on the bit so I can hold the razor under water as I cut, I think.

They make some nice precision cutoff wheels that are excellent for lopping off or out a large portion of steel, and then the thing to use is the sanding drums. You will go through a lot of them. The good news is they are the same thing that manicurists use so you can get them for chimp change on amazon or aliexpress, in bulk. I mostly use the big ones, half inch diameter. You can grind for two or three seconds right at the edge and that's it, gotta dunk the razor in your glass of ice water. Further away from the edge, longer. Near the spine or shank, 20 seconds at a go is usually gonna be okay.

There are some flex shaft front ends available that would enable you to go underwater with it, but I would just grind and dunk, grind and dunk.

There are a few notes on this on my website. Look for anything about modding Gold Dollars.
