Thanked: 54I've watched it several times.
Something struck me as odd so watched it over a few times
He goes right down on his right side and doesn't breech the chin line at all in the middle or his left side.
Sorry, doesn't happen.
Maybe he doesn't grow hair there, who knows but he certainly isn't shaving it.
I would typically take about 15 minutes to set up, shave and clean up.
If I need to be quicker, I can easily do that. Years and years of straight use make it second nature. I never have to find a substitute for a straight to expedite things.Last edited by stoneandstrop; 03-09-2025 at 08:48 PM.

Oh yeah, it's definitely a speed schtick. That shave can't be very good.
If I didn't I could just drive down the road shaving with the electric. Believe it or not I see people do it in traffic.
The point for me is not NOT being able to do it in that amount of time it's that straight shaving, aside from the preferred results, is a ritual that I enjoy and if I am pressed for time I would rather sacrifice a shave I will repeat next day than spoil the ritual I look forward to.
I can get the same, or near the same quality shave with a DE, but I go through all that other stuff because it is something I enjoy and racing through it diminishes that. I'd simply rather not. I'd just rather take my time.Iron by iron is sharpened, And a man sharpens the face of his friend. PR 27:17

Thanked: 54I agree Paul. I absolutely love the shave itself and still look forward to it after all these years.
I just can't get the same shave from a DE and don't really find it faster.
I have a nice Birthyear slim waiting for me when I can no longer use the straight, As nice as that DE is I hope the day never comes

Thanked: 0Me too. I only use one arm for straight razor shaving now, but can still get a good shave. It is more difficult to get that perfect shave, nowadays (a present from a hit and run driver while riding my motorcycle). A good DE is a must have for anybody, and especially as we age. Some find they no longer have the dexterity they had when younger.

Yes, some of our dearly departed friends had to stop using a straight before the end. You just never know. At least it gives you a link to independence to hold onto.

One pass does it for me, if I honed the razor. Not to be snarky, or maybe it is just mental, but I have only ever had one razor that came to me shave ready, that I could go a single pass with. If it is really sharp and reasonably smooth I can get quite a decent shave with a single pass. I don't really rush a shave, but it doesn't take me long, either, especially if I am not posing and talking for the camera like (spoiler... not a new video, most of you have already seen this at least once)
Maybe I am just more confident with a self honed razor, or maybe I am just well acquainted with the micro peculiarities of my own edges, but to me it makes a difference.
Not only that, but I no longer chase pure 100% BBS. It simply isn't necessary. Good enough is good enough, and nobody but me will notice if it won't pass the drivers license test with flying colors.
