    Default Never, Never, Never

I thought I was pretty clever trying to get that last shave off a dull razor. I thought a little extra stropping would be fine. So I strop and strop and strop and assume all is well.

The shave was a little rougher than usual but I thought nothing of it.

It was only after the shave was done and my face was burning that I thought there might be a problem.

So a giant patch of ingrown hairs and irritation later and I have come to the conclusion that shaving with a dull razor is not the way to go. Probably a typical newb mistake but I thought I was above the law.

SOOOOO I hereby swear never to shave with a dull razor again!

I must admit I also sometimes would use a razor that's not up to par. I have many that are, and I could easily switch - and I should. But for some reason - sometimes I continue to *tough it out* - defenitely not worth it, if you can make yourself use another razor

    Cheers

Having many razors (read this as RAD ) is sometimes a good thing. This way I can spend an afternoon honeing them all at once, yet another good thing As I rotat them I can check for even wear and such.

Hear, hear!! I've made it a point to refrain from honing/touching up my entire rotation at one time. That way I have a regular frame of reference as soon as any of my blades is beginning to lose its perfectly keen edge. As soon as that happens it gets set aside and when two or three of them are waiting, I'll hone/touch up that group. I keep a regular rotation of 15 razors (I've a 15 slot barber's box so it works out well) and never use one after the shave quality starts to degrade...it's just not worth it.

    Just another data point,
    Ed

See how many you can get into a ballcock until it won't float anymore

So if I got this right my problem is that I don't have enough razors! I have been at this for a very short time. So far I have 9 razors, 3 strops, 1 custom job being made for me as we speak (or as I type) from Robert and more tubs of creams, vials of aftershave and assorted balms and accessories than you can shake a stick at.

What didn't I list??? Hones and the skill of honing (can that be bought? Money is no object).

So I wait patiently till a couple of the razors that I sent out to Lynn find their way home to me. In the mean time I refuse to shave.

Ironically I used to hate shaving with the burning passion of a thousand suns, now I look forward to it.

My wife seems to be oblivious when I'm clean shaven (most of the time), but won't let me near her if I've stubble. Complains bitterly to me and many of her friends about the time I take in the bathroom in the morning (even though its no more than I spent when using an electric, and it's less time than she spends), but seems proud (to the point of bragging) that her husband shaves with a straight whenever a reduce/reuse/recycle conversation comes up (more often than you'd think since both of us are academics in Forestry).

I guess I've just become used to the fact that wives are like soldiers or students...none of them are happy unless they have something to complain about.

    Just another data point,

    Default More razors

Prof: You are right about wives & students....however, my wife LOVES a smooth face, esp. the chin. To show her appreciation this year, she bought me a minty ERN "Sultan Razor" at a local antique fair. She also likes Pinaud Clubman.
