four pass shave
Been following a four pass shave noted over at Badger and Blade and it seems to be working quite well with a double edge. I really want to try it with the straight but don't know how I will fair with the across passes. They really need to be good for the shave to turn out well. What kind of luck do you presume I will have with a freshly honed razor. I am going to give it a go with a 7/8 w&b when I get it back. I imagine If I can manage all of the strokes that this would be the best shave I have had.

I think it would be a great experience. I treat myself to 3 pass shaves on weekends and just 2 passes on weekdays when I'm in a hurry. I shave everyday. Just make sure you use light pressure, don't go over a same spot once, at least not without a layer of good lather between your skin and the blade and it should be just great.

Wow! Four passes sure seems like a lot. I usually do 2-3
passes, and never directly ATG. I suspect that the DE
technique doesn't directly translate to the straight. See
if you can work on stretching to get a closer shave in
fewer passes!

Thanked: 0I have tried the four pass and my cheeks and chin can take it, but not my neck and upper lip. I only do that many passes for special occasions. I make sure there's always lather and I use a good post shave cream after because my skin would feel very dry and tight.
I used to think i had sensitive skin, but compared to many people here i guess it's normal...maybe it was just the awful cartridge curse!

Thanked: 0Great advice Scott. Using the technique you mentioned in your post, after a few months I finally got a true BBS shave with my Dovo 5/8. Skin stretching is the key. I can say as a 3 month newbie with a straight, the more you shave the better it gets. In the beginning, I never thought I would get a good straight shave and get the technique down.
