    Default wedges

Physics doesn't really support the notion that there is a beard heavy enough to cause a high-carbon steel full hollow ground razor to flex any more than a thick wedge.

From my experience, my cuts come from hesitating and hanging up. Occasionally if I have a razor that is not quite sharp enough, it skids over some whiskers and then digs in.

Or, if the razor should hang up for some reason, the lighter razor will stop and sometimes convert forward momentum into sideways motion---ouch!

Wedges almost never seem to do this to me because of their weight.

On the other hand, my nastiest cuts have come from wedges. Once they start cutting, they have more momentum...yow!!!! Ya gotta get used to them.

Finally, it seems to me that wedges are not just for heavier beards. Why can't they be used on light facial hair if they are sharp?

    Default I love my wedge

I am a newbie to straight shaving and wet shaving in general. I have shaved with a disposable edge straight, a Dovo 5/8 Classic round point I got from Tony Miller, a Clauss from Josh Earl which I think full hollow spike point, a R.Sutcliffe wedge I think 5/8 or smaller and a Futur DE with Wilkinson sword and Merkur blades.

Out of all of the above I enjoy shaving the most with the Wedge. I dont feel the inclination to touch any of my other straights.

For me at the moment its the Wedge or the DE.

It is always an almost religious experience for me to shave off 5+ days of growth with a high quality wedge that has a wicked edge.

Do you really think wedges are the thing for newbees even if they are really macho men? They are much harder to maintain. IMHO I would recommend 7/8 or 8/8 blades to men to whom you think size really matters just for the sake of ease of maintenance. You don't wanna put a beginner off.
