Basics are really important....
So yesterday I had a fantastic shave, BBS all over, no irritation, the woiks....
So being the anal retentive control freak that I am I analysed what I did right. (I have CDO, its like OCD but in alphabetical order, just the way it damn well should be! )
And my conclusion:
Absolutely nothing..... earth shattering that is.
All I did was concentrate on the basics; stropped properly, didn't skimp on the lather, soaked my beard thoroughly, stretched the skin loads and concentrated on the angle.
Pretty much it, things we all learn then forget how important they are.
Perhaps the secret to a perfect shave is simpler then we all think.
(or want to believe, after all we have to justify our AD's somehow )

Thanked: 1587I agree. But I've found with many things that the basics only become "basic" after a bit of experience has been gained first. Once you get to that point, you often wonder what all the fuss was about in the first place.

Thanked: 3I've had about 7 shaves so far and what Jimbo says resonates pretty strongly for me already. The first time I tried to shave even my cheek I kept putting the razor near my face then taking it away. I couldn't imagine any way in my mind that I would get close enough to shave without slicing my cheek open. Fast forward a week and a half and I can shave my whole face, albeit not extremely close. It's pretty amazing to me that so very recently I couldn't do a damn thing with the razor. Congrats on the BBS! I'm still trying to get more than a tiny patch of it - I think my razor needs to be a tad sharper for ATG.

Hmm, prehaps basics was the wrong word.
I reckon fundementals is probably better...
I didn't mean basic in the sense that they were easy!
