    Default Shaving tip

Here something that works really well for me.

After I finish the first WTG pass, I wet my face to rinse off the dried lather.
Then I do a 2nd WTG pass on my wet face, without any lather.

This really removes a lot of the leftover stubble without causing extra sensitivity.

After that the ATG pass is much easier, and the end result is a lot smoother than I would get with just WTG and ATG.

I tried it with lather too, but I've found to too many latherings will cause a burning sensation on my skin. In my case the lather was doing much more harm than the razor.

I've been doing close to the same thing, except going across the grain in some places on the second pass and using lather on the second pass. Some parts of my face will stand accross the grain and against the grain better than others. To clean up after the second pass, I've been using King of Shaves oil to clean up any rough spots.

I also recently went from a 5/8 razor to a 6/8 razor and could not believe the improvement in the shave. The 6/8 just seems to float through my beard and there's almost no irritation.

Seems like this is becoming a popular theory. I wonder if it is really the size, sharpness, or quality of the blade.

Gonna give this a try...maybe the lather on the 2nd WTG is messing me up? I got one helluva rash today!

    Thanks for the idea,

Similar for me ,too. I do 2 passes WTG (both w/ lather) before going XTG. I find when I do that and just focus on technique--not on closeness @ first--I get a much better shave. Before, I would just about rub the skin off going the same way over & over to get that last bit 'o subble . Cheers!

    Bruno,

I'd been doing two WTG with lather passes for a while to work on my WTG technique, but I found it wasn't any less likely to result in irritation than a regular two-pass shave. The last couple of days I've followed your suggestion and I'm really liking it. I had done water-only passes before going ATG to touch up, but this seems to knock the stubble down a bit more so the ATG pass is more effective.

This one gets a from me.

If this is actually happening with a lot of people, it may be the weight of the blade depending on hollow. i.e. if it is a less hollow 6/8 than the 5/8 they were using, it may be easier for them to let the weight of the blade do the cutting instead of using undue pressure which would cause irritation. Just my take...

But about Bruno's method- I'm gonna try that, it sounds good!
