    Default Shaving birthmarks?

Hi kinda new here but been looking around forum a while and did a little buying from some of the guys here. So I started shaving with a shavette to practice before I get my shave ready straight. I have a birthmark on my upper lip on my right side and im afraid to shave by it cause im afraid i will cut it off . Has anyone had birthmarks on there face and had to deal with this issue or did they simply just use a disposible to take care of just that area? I figured i would throw this to you guys since theres alot of experience around here and im hoping someone has delt with this issue, or there was a post and I just couldnt find it cause theres just so many on here haha. Thanks for everyones help in advance.

I wish I knew what to tell you. I am sorta in the same boat. I have a heart shaped scar on my upper lip from a "skateboard Vs. car" thing. LOL So I am wondering the same thing. I keep a goatee right now, so I haven't had to shave over it yet. But I would also like to know the best way to go about it.

Yeh, I cracked my lower jaw open playing volleyball, and I have a birthmark right near that. I just sport a goatee/only bottom beard most of the time though, which covers it up. I don't think shaving will remove that any time soon, but I had the same questions.

    Anyone?

the simple answer is you're going to cut it.
be it with a straight, or a disposable...
My advise would be to get very comfortable shaving with your straight before going near it, and then get a spike point.
until I got extremely comfortable with my daily shaver, and was able to do very refined edge work with it, I kept a 5/8 Wester brothers De-fi spike on stand by... If I missed a spot, or wanted to do very fine sculpting say under my nose, or by my side burns I'd get out my spike. with practice and much care you can pop individual hairs with the tip, and shave around edges with surgical precision.

That's the ticket to shaving around irregularities. I have a mole (I almost typed 'mold') on my face where I use the technique stated above.

I have (had, haha) one birthmark on my cheek, as well as several really nasty scars on the point of my chin from various misadventures.

The first time I used a straight (factory Dovo, unhoned, hadn't found this forum yet and didn't know better) I was dragging it along fairly hard like I would with a disposable with the exciting and painful consequence of shaving most of the birthmark off. As my razors have gotten sharper and my hands steadier, I have found that it's not really a big deal, I just go right over it, sometimes it loses a few layers of skin, but I don't really have a problem with it. Interestingly, over the months, it has very nearly disappeared. (imagine, all those poor suckers paying dermitologists big money to remove such things... all they need to do is shave with a straight, haha)

The scars on the point of my chin are more of a problem. No hair grows there, but I have to use a VERY light touch to prevent hurting myself. The stitch marks stick up about .7mm so if I'm using a square point I take it very slow.

    Mustache has an 'e'.

And potato doesn't. (I noticed you're from Idaho. That should get a lively discussion going!)

I have a good sized birthmark on my chin - I cut it pretty well quite a few times. Shaved a piece off with a feather AC once or twice too. The good thing - your skin (including birthmarks) will usually get used to the blade. So if I shave with a straight every day - it's fine. But then if I switch to DE, I usually cut it. However, if I start shaving with DE every day, it will get used to that.

With that in mind, I'd suggest to start using real straight and not waste your time with shavette. Your skin might be different of course. YMMV, etc...

i have a small mole under my jawline. i have made it bleed more than a few times. however, i think that i have gotten better at shaving it, and i think that it has gotten tougher.

    hack it off.
