Big agreement on the Proraso pre shave cream. I've found it works better than the Castle Forbes and Musgo Real pre-shaves which are more expensive (and served as my backup when I went through a period of being unable to find the Proraso).

I would think you wouldn't want a product to raise the hair, that is what skin stretching does...
any product that makes the hair stand up (like lectrashave) will either raise the folicle and cause cuts, or harden the hair.

If you look at the steps we take in our preshave routines, you will notice that almost every step taken is to soften the hair.
Instead of thinking along the lines of someone who uses an electric, and needs the hair to stand so the electric can bruitally yank it out, think of what will soften your beard for better results.

hot water, or hot towels, combined with conditioning agents, good soaps that contain high ammounts of glycerine
I use a Neutrogena preshave facial scrub in the shower, and in winter time will use hair conditioner on my beard before shaving. softer is better, and your razor will take care of the rest.
if you need better results, work on skin stretching, and the angle of your blade.
shallower passes (25 degrees?) with zero pressure, and more passes... or as I tell my friends when I teach them, just try to remove the lather, if you're using a good sharp blade you should be able to scare the hair right off your face.

RPR - it seems that hair also kind of stands up when it's well hydrated - I guess it absorbs the water and the associated volume expansion makes it stay less flat on the skin

My advice to you is to hydrate the beard as well as possible, and also to work the lather longer on your face - the lather does help the hair stand up, and working it well before you start the shave is important. I remember reading that barbers even worked the lather in with fingertips. You'll need to relather after this before you shave

Many conditioners work well too, but it seems some actually have hair-strengthening properties, which is not what you need as a pre-shave

    Cheers
    Ivo

Mike thanks for the advice,it make sence to me.When i shave is right after shower so i let hot water run on my face for a few of mints.Sure the hairs feel more soft and the razor run very easy on my face.

...btw i can wait to send my razor for huning.
