Thanked: 0Shaving angle distance
Hi guys.
While i'm still learning to shave and hone, i've been wondering about what angle to shave at. I've been restoring the antique razor i own, a puma 225, and i began to wonder if the razor was actually sharp but my technique was bad.
I know Lynn says you should shave at around 30 degrees, which on my 2cm wide razor equates to keeping the center of the spine about 1cm off my face/neck. This seems a bit much to me, as when i get to these broad angles i find the razor scrapes more. But perhaps my razor is actually blunt. Personally i've probably been keeping the razor at half this angle which scrapes less.
Anyway, to get to the point, how much of a gap do you feel that you keep between the razor spine and your face, i know you don't have eyes on the back of your head but i find i can visualize the gap easier than the angle i'm producing.
Thanks

I would estimate that I am usually two spine widths from my face to the bottom of the spine maybe more. about 20 to 30 degrees

Thanked: 4942Usually I find that 30 degrees or less is what works. Some razors feel like they are flat against my face when they cut the best. Each razor will have it's own perfect angle. Always better to be at a flatter angle as wider angles are painful and do more scratching than shaving normally.
Have fun,
Lynn

Thanked: 0cool, thanks guys, i think partially i'm still learning to hold the razor, today i was trying to go upwards with my left hand on my neck and i couldn't for the life of me manage to angle the blade as i got over to that portion under your ear and cheek bone. But i think maybe its a muscle memory thing and i guess i'll get it sooner or later
