Shaving - a pain in the neck?
Well guys, here's my story.
I was wondering why I can't seem to shave any more than WTG every day. The shaving becomes painful.
Also if I rub my hands ATG some 6 hours later, It's quite sore to do.
It's basically too sore to shave ATG for me on my neck area. I can do it on my sides, chin and lip but def not on my neck.
Anyone else have these experiences?

I'm sure many men experience this, that's why it's recommended
to shave WTG with XTG if necessary to get extra closeness. ATG is
not for everyone, and can cause all sorts of irritation, pain, and in-
grown hairs.

(In response to your question: no, I do not experience any pain,
but I do not shave ATG)

I've found I can get away with 1 semi-ATG on my neck w/ no irritation. If I try again the next day, pain! The most I can do day-after-day w/o problems is WTG+XTG.

Do you stretch the skin on your neck real good? If I don't I get burn also. Also the neck is always a problem area for most people. I can do 1atg and 1 wtg on my neck, anymore and I get burn.

I've had the same issue on the sides of my neck where there really aren't that many whiskers and the skin is more sensitive (in a direct line down from my earlobes. I've found that in that area I have to use so little pressure than I'm almost passing the edge over the skin as imperceptibly as one would pass a feather (from a bird, not the razor brand).
And.....I simply do not go ATG anywhere on my face. WTG and XTG gives me BBS in most areas and I'm not out to nor do I have the time to find every possible small area that's not BBS to monkey around and literally get every square centimeter BBS. No need for me to do that.
Plus ATG on my neck and even with a straight 90% of the time....irritation and even ingrowns (not nearly as many as cartriges, DEs and electrics gave me though I can definitely say that).

Also......is it your soap? Or could that be a contributing factor?"Blues fallin' down like hail." Robert Johnson
"Aw, Pretty Boy, can't you show me nuthin but surrender?" Patti Smith

Chrisl : Can't be my soap as it happens with every soap I have. Mama Bear - Rosemary mint cake, Proraso, GFT Coconut, Violet, Taylors Lavender.
thebigspendur : Yeah I stretch the skin on my neck real good during each pass.
Also the ATG pass on my neck would be from right to left in a horizontal motion which is very awkward to perfom. I think in essence during every shave I'm only really going XTG twice as the once up and once down = XTG on my neck.
Very frustrating tbh. Am tempted to go to the Turkish barbers in Belfast to see how they get on with my neck shave.
Perhaps I should try some pre-shave oil? Although I know it's kind of blasphemy in the world of straight shaving to use such a product.Last edited by poona; 03-14-2008 at 10:55 AM.

You say 2 XTGs (up,down)? Your neck hair must grow sideways, then. Mine does as well. Up is no problem. Down has to go light. Good luck w/ the oil!
