Thanked: 4An unreasonably easy shave...
Well I was lazy with my sunday honing this week and all of my edges have been average at best until this morning....
Wapi nologo, Ekilstuna 4/8 frameback, Butcher 7/8 wedge, Silver Bell singing blade hollow ground my goodness...
Nothing to look at razor but unreasonably easy to hone apparently and dead easy to shave with. We have a new race leader. Wapi was winning previously but they have and unfair head start on the Big Wedge.
I'm hoping I can bring my wedges up to the same kind of shave but I can certainly see why many of you collect those ugly ducklings.
I'm going to have to work on my wedges this weekend and see if I can't help them get back out front.

Thanked: 0I had the outstanding shave of the week today too.
I'm studiously working through my rotation, having rehoned most of the ones that I'd done before, since finally getting a Norton. (Needless to say, the blades have all improved; my 1k/6k King stone and finishing hone weren't giving me consistent results.) I had a great shave from a 5/8 spike that I picked up on Ebay which turned out to be clearly completely unused (no hone wear or other marks on the blade or scales at all; it even passed the HHT as was!)
And then I dinged the damn thing
I've honed out the chips and had it on the Norton. Finishing hone and pastes next - hope it will shave as well as it did before my clumsiness got involved.
Good luck with the wedges; I've recently finally got a chunky 6/8 J. Heiffor 'Made for the Army' wedge shaving, with the help of the Norton - 'twas a struggle.Last edited by SheffieldShaver; 03-20-2008 at 05:02 PM.

I have an ugly little 4/8 handmade wedge, pitted blade, but super keen edge. That ugly little slice of steel shaves super. For some reason I just don’t reach for it that often, I did this morning and the shave is still as smooth as it was 9 hours ago. I have to get that big meat chopper 7/8 wedge finished and honed.
