    Default Eureka!

OK, so I've been at this for about a month or so, and have been getting some really really good shaves, and a few less than satisfying shaves.

My last shave two days ago started well enough, but by the end it was getting a bit rough and irritating. It was a freshly sharpened edge (0.5um finish), and I checked it after the one shave (under the scope) and it was all beat to heck, microchipping, etc.

    What the???

So, I pondered what the issue was, and then a light bulb went off: "angle, it must be the angle!"

So, this morning dawns bright and clear, and I have at my whiskers, this time being sure to keep to a much shallower blade angle to my face---VIOLLA! Smooooooth shaving

I think I had been trying too hard to clear off my whiskers on each pass, instead of just letting each pass contribute its' part to the whisker reduction. So, I had been using a rather steep blade angle relative to my face. It worked, to an extent--but it also was beating up my razor edge, and thus by the end of pass 3 or 4 it was also beating up my face because the edge by that point was all ragged.

Anyhow, it was a fantastic morning shave. My 3 year old son joined me for the last two passes, and was quite amused by the shaving cream on my face, as it was the first time he had seen me shaving. But after I was done he felt my cheek and proclaimed "smoove, soft", so I guess I did OK!

Keep the angle low, and GO!

Great job -and you are correct. I sometimes forget about reduction and try to get to skin right off the bat. Bad idea. Great post.

Yes. Beard reduction not beard elimination. It's a good mantra to have. . .
