DE Blasphemy?
I find that, try as I might, I just can't get a BBS-result with my str8 on my upper lip area. I do two passes-one WTG and the other Across TG, and this just doesn't do it for me. I find it very difficult to do an against the grain on the upper lip. So in the end I pull out my old DE and, zip-zoom, the upper lip is smooth as silk.
As much as I want to shave 100% with my str8, I just don't get the closeness I want without resorting to my DE for the upper lip.
Any others out there have the same experience?

When my upper lip isn't getting shaved, it is a sign to me to hone my razor. I normally get a very smooth shave with WTG and then AGT.

Thanked: 3I'm in the same boat. No matter what, I can't seem to get a good cut. It's the angle, just can't get it right with a straight. No mind, though, the upper lip was one of the areas where the DE shaved to BBS all along. (I'm one of those who shaves with a straight to get a shave, damn you people who chose to do so, could use a cartridge if you wanted and whose beards have a grain.)

You didn't say how long you have been using a straight but the upper lip is the most difficult area to shave and will take the longest to get right. So just keep at it and check out the old barbers manuals in the resource area for help. I have a full mustache you I can't help you there but I sure some pro's will chime in.

Tight skin, via pulling, tugging and facial yoga. And a wicked sharp razor.
Don't feel bad. I've been shaving with straights for years now and sometimes use a DE to finish those pesky problem areas, especially if I'm after a 100% super-ultra BBS finish.

Guess I'll just have to keep a stiff upper lip!

I go down (using whole blade), across (using the toe of the blade, moving inwards on sideways-growing whiskers - visible in my video) and then up (sometimes using the heel of the blade, since it is often neglected for most standard strokes, and therefore usually has a sharp edge to slice off the remaining hair) for that area, like most, I'm sure. Although I sometimes hear of people not wanting to shave against the grain. I too would suggest that you stretch your lip over your upper teeth, which makes shaving there easier.
