Thanked: 1The result of not respecting my razor!
In my 10 months or so of using a SR, I have never cut myself--except on the face, and that plenty of times, at first! But today I got careless and forgot I was holding my Japanese SR, right after stropping it. I reached hand-over-hand to get something off the shelf and basically dragged the tip and leading edge of the razor through the meaty part of my palm, just under my thumb.
It was deep, an angled cut about two inches long and at least an 1/8th of an inch deep. It didn't bleed much but I will have limited mobility with my right hand for a week or so. I could say that this Japanese straight razor is so small and light that it fooled me, but in truth, I got careless, forgot what I was doing, and paid the consequences of that.
Got a great two-pass shave after the bandaides were on, though!

Ouch!
I've never done that with a straight, but I've exposed bone with a couple of my knives...
You've gotta respect an instrument like that. The instant you don't it will bite you.

Thanked: 1587I don't know much about medical stuff, but maybe that cut needs more than a bandaid?
Anyway, I hope it heals up well

The first year I stated shaving I cut myself with a straight way more on my hands than I ever did on my face.

Thanked: 13245Yep they bite!!!!
My hands have taken most of the abuse but the majority of that is from restoring razors....
The worst was just wiping one down after the shave with a piece of tissue, for some dumb reason I switched hands from normal and ZING!!!! nice little wedge right out of my finger BTW that clotting powder burns like the fires of hell but it does work!!!!!
Scars look manly though..... Right????
