Thanked: 0Just did first shave.
I just got my new razor from drfred yesterday, and could hardly wait to put it against my face! Anyway, I spent about 15 mins shaving, I only did 1 WTG on my whole face and neck and was satisfied. Not BBS, but because I'm blond you don't even see the stubbly and its 1:00 am now. I shaved probably 12 hours ago.
---The pros.
Didn't take to long, about 10 mins for my whole face.
Was easier then I expected, as long as you take your time and relax.
Made a stand out of 9G steel wire I had to hold my brush upside down to dry.
---The Cons.
I had HORRIBLE razor burn on my neck where I didn't have the skin tight enough.
Sloppy, and had hair still there in patches, but hey, practice makes perfect.
Still don't have a strop or suitable stones yet.
I'm gonna go to the guy who owns a local leather shop and ask for some scraps to make a strop, and stones just require cash that I dont have yet.
So, the only question I really have left is, what is a good brand of after-shave? I was told to stay away from Old Spice, and I've never set foot in our liquor store, so I dont know about any bay rum. And does after shave help razor burn much? This stuff was horrible, I mean, like glowing orange/red hickies all over my neck. I thought about telling my co-workers it was some sort of rare skin disease/fungus but I'm a horrible liar.
Also, last but not least, Thank you again drfred for a wonderful razor! Works like a charm, I just need improvement!

it takes time. after shave won't really help stop razor burn no, but practice will. i use gillette with alcohol. just because, no reason.

I would look into proraso balm or maybe even proraso splash.

Thanked: 3I dont think aftershave would prevent razor burn! Try a nice soothing aftershave balm. There are expensive brands like Anthony Logistics you could try or in-expensive brands ( that work just as well) like Proraso.
The main thing is that the irritation should become less frequent with practice.
