Thanked: 9Not a lady here but FWIW:
If it has to be a straight - I'd say at least shoot for a shorter blade - about 2.5" or less cutting edge. (Standard is about 3"). It seems this would be easier to handle in some areas.
Grind may not matter as much, unless you have tougher hair. But even for very tough hair - properly honed hollows should have no problems. The advantage of wedges may be from the extra weight generating momentum - may be better for dense growth...
I have the opinion that on a 4/8 it would be harder to make sure the angle is right (before you get used to it) than say a 6/8
Hope this helps
Cheers

Thanked: 9I said "if it has to ba a straight ", because there are "safety" razors, which are also called single-edge razors: they must be honed and stropped too, like a regular straight, but fit in a head (comb style) on a handle.
While very different from a straight, they still offer some of the features of the straights that I enjoy (e.g. - hone and strop, etc.)
Cheers

I seem to recall reading literature regarding straight razors manufactured to and used by women in the past few centuries being 3/8 or 4/8ths. Most recently I think I saw something in the 3rd Edition Razor guide. FWIW.

Why Mr. Mastermute, I'd love to see this 3/8. I caught word back home that my Wapi arrived today. However, that one is to shave others first. I am interested in something smaller to add to the collection of sorts, so I can't wait to see this little baby you're talking about.
Thanks for thinking of us!

oh, oh! i know this one! i have experience!!! ( i haven't stopped smiling since)
4/8, 2.5-3 inch blade, with equally small scales! that would be my weapon of choice for the, ah hem, delicate work...... and a regular razor works well on the legs and such, i am happy to report!

i have a couple of 4/8th that shaved me quite well...well i had to try, they are stiff and not bad to use easier than a 6/8th, i think, I have them on BST as Im freeing up capital...but for the ladies im sure we can make a better deal..i dont mean to tout ....but smaller and a stiff grind may be easier to use, seeing as most men can work in a mirror, except to shave...lol...anyways just wanted to chime in and say hi.
regards,simon
