Default My first sharp razor, my first shave!

Well yesterday I was expecting to get my first shave ready razor in the mail... I didnt see the package lying around so I assumed it hadnt arrived yet. At 9PM I checked the tracking and it said it ARRIVED! I was so excited I left everything I was doing - and talking to - to find it! I found it gracing the floor... :-D I was happy, but I had to go to work in a few hours so I didnt want to shave yet. I had a lot to 'prepare' for... it's my first shave after all with a straight and i dont want to get cut to whatever or wherever... I also had never made a lather for myself... So I tested out making a lather (really poor job!) then I went to work...

Now it's uh 9 hrs after that and I got off work went out to eat all the while thinking... SOON MY PRECIOUS I'LL BE ABLE TO SHAVE WITH YOU... and the time came when I got home. I opened up all the different packages and walked to the bathroom. I stropped first and then got a lather ready (ran out after first application, not sure if I made a good one or not, but I'll learn soon enough.) I started to shave - pretty easy - cut... lol I finished my whole face I got one small cut about 1/8 of an in on my right cheek and then I got a small ding below my jaw on the right side and then just like 2 small dots on the jaw line of my left side... was going against the grain, must have had too steep an angle.

overall I am so excited to shave as soon as possible! hehehe, I do know that i need to invest in an aftershave - cause I dont have one... but other than that.. man I'm loving this, and it's not really that difficult, doing the left hand thing is a bit different, but man it's fun!

In other news - I got a new strop with .5 micron paste on it.. the Zeepk that i could never sharpen with my honing skills.. well it perked right up after like 10 strops on that... after 20 ish and 30 ish on the leather side it's real sharp now... i'm just going to give it to my friend... he wants to get into straights too.

Overall experience - few cuts, a little razor burn, awesome experience, enjoyable to hold a super sharp razor to your throat and cut only the hair off... lol

just a quick question... i shaved my chin last - and it seemed to drag a bit... was it getting 'dull' or was that just how this awkward place will feel like when shaved? I stropped it a little before use, but not much.

A little stropping may help, but I get the same thing sometimes, after all it is usually the last place I shave. It may also be due to the infinite number of angles one must achieve to complete the process on the contours of the chin. If its a problem for you, I would suggest a good stropping before the shave to eliminate pulling and a sharp eye on technique. Watch those angles!

after reading like 20 different posts looking for this particular thing in someone else's experience I found the same thing... that it's probably due to angles... thanks! I really love this forum - everyone is here for everyone... awesome!
