I've just completed 4 days of shaving with my feather bladed HD DE due to time constraints, and I thought some input would be nice.

The shaves were smooth and irritation free. The results were BBS and in 2 problematic areas, from the corners of my mouth down to my jaw-line, very smooth without the characteristic bumps and irritation I'd get after a few days of straight shaving.

However, as we all know, the shaves don't last as long.

Even though I'm nearly BBS everywhere using a straight there are still areas I can feel some very slight stubble, but it doesn't show.

I'm happy with my results using a straight, especially when they last longer, but I don't understand why a DE would feel closer but not last as long?

    It's a conundrum...

DE blades have polymer coatings that make them glide over your face easier.

Did you try skin stretching while using your DE? I find that if apply the same techniques with a DE as I do with a straight I can also get a very nice, long lasting BBS shave.

Yea, I do stretch a bit but not like when I use a straight.

I can get a nice BBS with a DE but it's hard to pin it down, my beard seems to stay hidden longer after a straight shave.
I just finished a straight shave and I think I have solved the problem areas from the corners of my mouth, I think I was using to much pressure. That seems to cause the bumps and redness.
The 4 pass DE save does a good job but I have to go 4 different directions to get it all. I can't do some of the same directions with my straight due to the blade length.

Maybe that's the reason I still feel some stubble in those hard to reach places.

I'm convinced the straight shave is closer in the same direction because I have to do a 4 pass DE shave to match a 3 pass straight shave.

My beard, my issues I guess...
