Thanked: 124Shaved my head! WOO HOO! Thx Jimbo
After struggling with head shaving for a while now, I finally got it! There were two keys:
(1) An 8K edge really isn't quite good enough; it encounters too much resistance. A 12K edge is better.
(2) Do most of the job with a safety razor & slowly expand your comfort zone with the straight. Start using the straight for the top, then the sides, and finally the back.Last edited by Johnny J; 09-12-2008 at 11:38 PM. Reason: clarification

Thanked: 124That's a pretty neat little device. I find it quite easy & foolproof to shave my head (& face, for that matter) with an ordinary DE. I suspect anyone who shaves with a straight will find a DE easy, too. Devices like the Headblade and this Dovo thingy I think are mainly for guys with no experience either with a DE or a straight.

Very cool, thanks for the tips. I really want to be able to do this myself someday. Doing Internet searches for head-shaving tips back when I started head shaving was how I stumbled onto this whole "shaving subculture" that I never knew existed. I didn't know what I'd been missing, I was blown away by how much better DEs were than cartridges, especially for head shaving. And, how much fun the whole thing was. Now, I've gotten bitten by the straight razor bug too.
Shaving your face with a straight is cool enough - but shaving your head with a straight earns you extra Man Points somewhere. Respect, sir.
