Default Shaved my head! WOO HOO! Thx Jimbo

After struggling with head shaving for a while now, I finally got it! There were two keys:

    (1) An 8K edge really isn't quite good enough; it encounters too much resistance. A 12K edge is better.

    (2) Do most of the job with a safety razor & slowly expand your comfort zone with the straight. Start using the straight for the top, then the sides, and finally the back.

Just thought I'd mention it - this thing from Dovo is quite popular among my friends. Glorified leg shaver, but it looks rather interesting, don't you think?

That's a pretty neat little device. I find it quite easy & foolproof to shave my head (& face, for that matter) with an ordinary DE. I suspect anyone who shaves with a straight will find a DE easy, too. Devices like the Headblade and this Dovo thingy I think are mainly for guys with no experience either with a DE or a straight.

Very cool, thanks for the tips. I really want to be able to do this myself someday. Doing Internet searches for head-shaving tips back when I started head shaving was how I stumbled onto this whole "shaving subculture" that I never knew existed. I didn't know what I'd been missing, I was blown away by how much better DEs were than cartridges, especially for head shaving. And, how much fun the whole thing was. Now, I've gotten bitten by the straight razor bug too.

Shaving your face with a straight is cool enough - but shaving your head with a straight earns you extra Man Points somewhere. Respect, sir.

I've been toying with the idea of getting a YouTube camera.

There was some butchery on the way up the learning curve. Watch Jimbo's head-shaving vid in the video section--it helps a lot. I think the biggest impediment to learning this is pressuring yourself to do the whole thing with a straight right away, while at the same time being worried about looking like some freak that got run over by a lawn mower. Weaning off the safety razor slowly makes this problem go away.
