My plea is that I live in Nottingham UK, if anyone lives close ish and can hone would they be prepared to mentor me for a while til I master stropping and honing
Reward would be free beer
At moment feel like I am going backwards

I'd be happy to help if I was close by. Hell, I'd give someone a shave for a few pints.

Don't kid yourself, a few pints of ale and a sharp razor are a bad combination especially if you venture past a few. I'm sure you will find one of our members nearby who will help out.

Never Discount Lather
I forgot just how important good penetrating lather is for a straight razor shave. This morning after good light I shaved outside with my very trusty ERN 6/8 hollow. I tried to hurry the shave by NOT washing my face first with regular soap. The lather worked up well on my unwashed face anyway. The shave started out miserable because my fine razor caught traction with my skin. After I started all over again with a pre-washing-then the usual Pirate's Cove Bay Rum & Mint lather-ALL WAS WELL! Another satisfying shave finished. The point is that lather is probably over 50% of the success of the shave itself. Clean your face well before lathering and then take your time with a small easy to shave portion of your face. Go slowly. Speed and panache will come later. I would gladly accept beer or Guiness if I were there. I'll toast to you here in the Hill Country of Texas. Keep at it, soon you will have fun with this noble hobby/passion/obsession.
