Default Combo Straight and DE Shave

Lately I have taken to using a DE for my last pass on my neck to catch some of the hard to get areas and hit a truly BBS state. Is this cheating?

I find it lasts longer than either the straight or the DE alone and results in less irritation than the number of passes required to get all the crazy directions my beard grows. Does anyone else do this and what do you think of the idea. Kind of like the best of both worlds.

Yes I do that sometimes. I just get lazy and do a quick third pass with a DE.

I started this procedure about a month ago, and never looked back. Perfect BBS every time!

I've thought of it but never done a combination before. I can get BBS on 2 passes with just the DE but not quite yet consistently with just the straight.

I want to be able to get there just using the straight though as I have before sometimes. I wouldn't really call it cheating as you're still accomplishing what you intended to do. If you want to learn to get there with just the straight though I think you'll have to sort of invest in loss and use just the straight and work on technique and such as it definitely can be done.

Like all things shaving related, the end result is what we're going after - I mean, yes, we all love the ravishing razors, handsome homes, superb strops, and other alliterations, but at the end of the day, it's about getting a great shave, and for that, whatever means works best.

I use a combination DE & str8 for all my shaves! BUT - I don't like to use the DE last for clean up or for a 3rd pass. If I'm not extra careful, I'll get razor burn from pushing the DE too much. What I use the DE for is at the very 1st pass, I lightly do my entire chin area. This makes my second and 3rd pass (if I choose to do one), done with the str8, a lot easier on that hard to shave chin.

This practice has worked extremely well for me to get the absolute best shaves I can. Am I cheating?

NO! Hey, it's just me, myself, and I, in front of the mirror every morning. - and I'm all for getting the best shave I can.

It's like "Milton Man" says, "It's the end result we're all looking for"

    Regards,

    Steve

I've been on a rotation diet lately. DE, Straight, Shavette.

I'm going to do a little integration now that you've mentioned it.

    Thanks for this thread!

As the beard grain direction on my neck is left to right, and I've not yet found the solution for ATG there using a straight, I often will finish my neck with a DE when I want to look sharp. But, I continue to search for the answer with a straight.
