    Brilliant idea!

I slaped my forhead, and nearly cried when I heard you did the TNT on a shave ready razor. Hope it still works for you mate.
Your getting great advice hear, its been a pleasure to read guys, im learning good stuff.

And i dont think it could be a wire edge, if he shave tested it, as all people who hone a razor do, it was functioning fine when he sent it. I just had a guy over to give him some shaving tips (we had a shave together) and i showed him how much light/no pressure is. And even though I had said it a hundred times he was still putting way to much pressure. But he had a much better shave today. So id say its your technique (no offence). But light as light pressure has always been the key for everything for me. I know your doing light pressure but if this guy test shaved it then its got to be you (Hope iv said my opinion nicely just trying to explain what i think. Keep going mate )

thanks Buckler, and your suggestions are well taken i can assure you. at this pont the razor is literally unusable as i have been looking at the edge more carefully and near the toe there is a spot that looks really chipped away, to the point of i can see a clear difference when i do the TPT (which i now know how to do, thanks guys ) it won't cut a hair if i sawed at it. the rest of it has evidence of the same chipping scattered across the blade. if the honer wasn't really far away i would get him to look at it. i think it will have to wait til i get a hone and practice on my antique shop razor.

my technique is coming along but i will always be looking for suggestions. i got a great shave today with my Boker even with the irritation and sensitivity from yesterdays shave. needless to say it was far better then any cartridge, better then my the DE i gave to my dad and though not my best straight shave ever, it was still very good.

i am still learning and wouldn't have it any other way.

    Good on you mate!
    Keep at it.

But I would send it back to the guy who honed it, im sure he would be happy to rehone it, I would. I would hate to hone a razor for somone and for them to be unsatisfied.

    Good luck

I think that you may using too much pressure as well. Also, some people say that they do better with a little duller blade as they have thicker hair. I have thin hairr, so I like mine sharp, as far as using pastes, I've never used them, so I wouldn't know about them.

so the verdict is definitely in (and was probably in some time ago).

My razor is NOT too sharp.

i am rehoning as we speak along with couple other razors. i still don't know what went wrong, i guess i will never know. i thought about sending it back to the guy who honed it, but honestly it could have been something i did for all i know. i'll chalk this one up to a learning experience and see if i can't get this thing sharp again. i will post it if it turns out, i'm sure it will with a little elbow grease and time.

i appreciate all the help though as i would be lost without these forums. thank you again.

I haven't read the whole thread, so sorry if this has already been said, but...

Everytime I get shaving irritation, it's because I was using too much pressure, or because I kept going over the same area without re-applying cream. As long as I don't do either of those two things, I get zero irritation WTG.

Just another newb's point of view.

ha my girlfriend wants to get into live blood analysis to go along with her Holistic Nutritional Counseling so maybe i can convince her to buy the microscope (which is a very expensive and cool one) early so i can use it for looking at my razors. ha! not much chance of that but i can wish, plus it might be taken as being a bit selfish. ha!
    RadioShack.com

That's the one I just picked up. It works very well for what we need it to do. I wish it would go up a bit higher than 100x, but it is still capable of showing most of what we need.

rehoned and i shaved with it the other day. it wasn't bad at all. i am still going to try some more polish honing and maybe a bit more time on the CrOx strop as it wasn't quite as smooth as i would have liked. still, at least i now know what the problem was, and that i'm can hone a blade to a decent edge.

oh and i don't have anymore radioshacks around me. they are all the source now, and they actually carry less stuff now. i used to like radioshack.
