Default Shavette a good learning tool???

    Hello

I am recently new to wet shaving. Just started using a DE. I also bought a shavette with the plan to learn with that to see if i like it and then invest in a straight later with all the fixings.

Is this a good plan or is the shavette a different animal and not really a good practice product. Would like to know before i use it so i could return it.

Also...will switching between a DE when i am in a hurry or traveling and a straight when i have the time and want a nice slow shaving experience hurt my face or because they both use one blade are they safe to rotate. (I would never go back to multi blade again i love the hot lavender TOBS lather)

    Thanks for any help

The shavette is in my opinion the right tool to experiment with straight razor shaving.
It's inexpensive, doens't require strops and hones to keep them sharp, and they make great travel razors, should you decide to stick to it. If you decide you don't like it, no big money invested.
They are not as forgiven as real str8s, but you can learn the technique with them.
Just one word of advise, take it slow, start with your cheeks, then move to your neck and finally your chin. Use "No Pressure on the Blade"
    Good luck

i bought one as I moved from DE to straight. I think theyre great, lets you have a basic grasp of technique before you begin waving a proper straight around.

I had started with a shavette as well, but now looking back I think it was a mistake. There are plenty of pluses to start with it - no stropping, no honing, cheap, but here is the minus - it is machine sharpened blade, to sharp for a newbie. I cut myself twice with it. After 2 month using a shavette I decided to finally graduate to a real straight and it was easier since I already knew how to hold and handle the form of the straight, but it wasn't as sharp so I had to learn how to use it again, but after shavette I didn't even nick myself ones. Now when I shave with a real straight I wonder how is it possible to cut yourself, but when I shave with a shavette I know that cutting myslef is really easy and I better watch every move I make. I do use shavette a few times during a month, when I'm too lazy to strop or just for a change, it is a nice thing to have around, but I really wish I did not start with it.
