    Default Help with skin

OK, so now what am I doing wrong. I have VERY sharp blades, my angle is less than a spine width, I'm BBS almost everywhere every day, and the last week I'm getting little shave bumps on my face. Remedies? Oh, pre-shave prep is hot shower or hot towel on the weekend, lather is thick, fluffy, warm and conducive to friction reduction, etc... What I'm saying is everything is working but my skin. I've even had (gasp) two ingrowns the past week.

Try an alum block. I use to use the anti-bump cream but from what I have read here the alum is supposed to eliminate the necessity for the cream and it seems to be working for me. I just started with the block about 3 weeks ago and I wish I had started a long time ago. I understand that there are some deodorants that have only alum in them which are a lot cheaper than an alum block and available locally at most health food stores.

Try TEND SKIN or L'Oreal Hydrafresh Toner...I posted a thread on each...it should solve your problems...

    Good luck

    Hi there,
There are sevaral things that help to eliminate the problem.
    Exfoliate. Gentle scrubs are good.
Some find it better if they shave every day, others if they do it less frequently. You'll have to experiment with what works for you. I find the exfoliation effect of the blade more frequently works for me.
Beard mapping allows you to determine direction of growth, thus making it easies to follow the grain, reducing ingrowns. I found with mine that the little ba5tard5 went in so many directions that it actually made the problem worse & a North/South was far better.
Alum does help too, but the deodorant is a harsher variation, so pay the extra & stick with the right stuff!
I have also used products with salicylic acid in them, but they seriously sting!
My final recommendation, & i think this is the most effective, is to find a soft bristled brush ( I use a toothbrush with a HUGE head) & to brush the problem areas in a circular motion. I use my face soap for this. It feels surprisingly good! It really seems to prevent them & help guide them out before they become a problem.
I've had a lot of problems with them & cannot use a multi blade & even suffer with my merkur de. Straights are the way forward!
    Hope this helps.

i'm definitely no expert but i know what works for me. it may sound strange but coconut oil is an amazing moisturizer but also has a disinfecting property to it. i put it on after every shave (which feels great) and if my face feels dry i do it right before bed. but be sure not to use too much as a little goes a long way, and rub it in good. too much and you will have a shiny face for a while, or if it is before bed so pillow problems. ha!i have never tried and alum block so i can't really compare.

you can also eat a teaspoon of cocnut oil a day to promote healthy skin, but it won't work specifically on your face, it does it all. if you look at most of the natural moisturizers out there they use coconut oil in them, and that is for a reason. just a suggestion though. hope it works out.
