New Home
So are "we" going to migrate here, and reserve the yahoo group for a backup during down times?

Thanked: 328Re: New Home
We can be wherever we want to be! The Yahoo forums here are integrated with the other Yahoo forums. People that want to stay there can, and will still be a part of the group.
People that want to come here, and use all the other forums, can do that too... Anyone can do anything

Thanked: 1Three things I notice on Lynn's video:
1) the angle of his razor sometimes looks like way more than 30 degrees
2) tho he says there isn't, it sure looks like he's putting pressure with the razor on the strop. the way the strop goes down at the point of contact....
3) never mentions leading with the tip, and sometimes doesn't appear to do so. Is this because of not stropping at an angle, but rather with blade perpendicular to strop?
I'm about a week into straight-razoring, learning something new every day

The stroping confused me too, i tought that the strop should be PERFECTLY flat when you strop.
And the lowbandthwith video file is sooo jerky... I hope the larger file is OK.

Stropping
You want the strop to be tensioned pretty well when stropping. I'm not talking about pulling a screw out of the wall or the knob off a door tight, just very little slack.
You use just enough pressure to keep the edge in contact with the strop. The stropping action should have a slight feeling of suction between the blade and the strop. I tend to strop very slowly, as this provides better feedback.
Lead with the spine, not the edge (unless you like purchasing new strops).
If you follow the X pattern, the blade remains perpendicular (90 degrees) relative to the strop. I usually start with part of the razor hanging off on the left side of the strop, then as I strop away from my body with the razor I try to end up with the same amount hanging off at the end of the stroke.
You can also angle the razor relative to the strop such that the entire blade is on the strop at an angle, say 45 degrees as a visual aid.
In either case, the heel of the blade leads the action instead of the tip. The heel is closest to the hinge pin. Either method is acceptable. Whatever produces consistent results.
Hope this helps.

Will try with a real razor soon. Right now i am practicing with a cheap shavette, both with hanging the strop, and laying it on the table, to get the different feel for surfaces.
