History of Shaving
History of shaving
I am currently studying Public History at Ruskin College Oxford, and would like to research all about shaving.
Public History is what we would call “bottom up” history, history about the lives of ordinary people, quite often overlooked.
What I am looking for is:
The development of straight razors, and the manufacturers
What did your father/grandfather teach you about shaving
How did your father/grandfather shave, did they go to a barbers shop or DIY
How much did it cost to shave in terms of weekly wages
How did the double edge and the rolls razor change things, if at all
The growing interest in straight razor shaving, does anyone know how many people do shave with a straight?
The current manufacturers
How straight razor shaving has developed into a fine art
And anything else anyone wants to contribute, however small or irrelevant (as long as it involves traditional wet shaving)
You can contribute/contact me either on this board or by PM or email.
Full acknowledgement will be given to any contribution.
Thanks in anticipation
