I have this exact problem also. I've developed a sweeping circular to deal with it. My valles are almost like sinkholes (using geography again) on either side of my Adam's apple. I put my razor up above them w/the scales inward on my second pass and sweep the point down carefully into a near vertical position. I reposition and do again until the area is good. This ends up as a cross between ATG and XTG, and is a little tricky, and I've cut myself a few times, but is the only thing that actually works for me. Hope that helps. Good shaving

Have you tried pulling the skin to a different area of your face? The area right underneath my jawline gives me problems, but if I pull hard enough, I can move that portion of skin up onto my jawbone.

Yes. It's better and better at each shave. I also try to turn my head in different directions; it looks funny but it's effective I also noticed that i get much less redness and irritations when shaving with straight razor.

What is a 'smiling edge'? Is this also known as a 'barber's notch' or is that something else altogether?

I don't get where the problem areas are for KeKon. Is it the creases near the corner of the mouth? If yes, use your tongue to inflate that area. If it is the area under the bottom lip that leads to the chin, use you tongue to inflate there too. I can't think of valleys any where else near the chin.

Cleft chin like Michael Douglas, or Kirk if you are old enough to remember him. Sandra Bullock also has a cleft chin but somehow I don't think she shaves her face.

Are you using right and left hand “attacks” as you shave? Going to the other hand often gives me a drastic change in the way the blade address my face. In some cases using my not-dominant hand shaves me clean when the same attempt with my more comfortable hand just does not work. Confidence will come with repetition. Also, in the chin area, across the grain is the only thing that works on my face.
