Thanked: 101Shaving Observations
I have noticed a few things since I've started shaving with a straight razor. I have noticed that my skin is no longer raw and irritated as it was with an electric. Also have also noticed no more white little pustules from razor burn popping up everywhere. I have been shaving for about 2 months now and I know I am very new, but I just wanted to share the things I've seen since starting this.....Evan

Congrats Evan! I haven't used an electric in 30+ years, and happily so. I started using straights in August, with touch up using my Merkur twin. I have the techniques and angles down pat now and get the BBS nearly eavery shave, as well as not having razor burn. I got the burn when I first started with the straight. But that was caused by technique, not dull razors.

EMC45,
I have just a tad more time with the straight, approx 3.5 months, but I too have noticed the same things except I never used an electric to any extent.
One more thing I jut recently noticed was the difference from using different hard soaps. I have a cake of col. conk lime that has given me the best shave yet. about six others have been ok and maybe a bit mroe than ok if I added a few drops of glycerin.
Any pictures of the new razors to share?

Thanked: 101I did get razor burn when I began, but that was due to technique and an improperly prepared razor. Now with my stropping and face prep down pretty good I am knocking out some killer shaves! There are pics of the razors in the razors section. I got 4 more in the mail today. I will post pics tomorrow. A Torey, a Duck, a ERN Wald, and a Royal Brand. Gonna take a bit of restoration, but they are cool all the same!

EMC. You caught the disease quickly (RAD)!! It only goes down hill from here. Let's see; brushes, creams, soaps, hones, strops... I hope you weren't under the delusion that you were going the straight razor route to save money!!

I have never owned an electric shaver and the safety razors do not give me any of the ill effects described by members in this forum. I very little to no razor burns with a straight either, except 2 days before christmas when I used a new razor (honed) and it was not very good for me. I have been recovering from it since but of course I keep shaving with straights ;-). It is almost gone by now. In a day or two, I should be good to go again.

Thanked: 101dward,
I fooled myself into thinking I would save money with reloading and bullet casting too. I have saved some, but between dies, powder, bullet molds, brass etc. etc.....

My skin is a lot healthier now, when I used a disposable I could only dream about shaving two days in a row, now I shave every day and still have skin left.

Welcome, Evan
Good to hear it. Straight razors are the worlds great secret and they really shouldn't be.
