    Default Shaving With The Grain

When I shave either with my Gillette Fusion or my Straight Razor, when I shave with the grain I don't get as much hair off as I should. I know it's not supposed to be as close as against the grain, but I should get more off. I use a new blade each time. First I apply warm water to my face with my hands, then I apply shaving cream, then I shave. What can I do to get more off?

    Thanks

Not sure how many shaves you have attempted, but a few things come to mind. First, your angles. What is your blade angle? Next, do you use long strokes or short ones? Shorter ones do the best. I also find that I generally take two passes.

Do you stretch the skin? If you pull the skin against the grain you flatten the area and make the hair stand up, making it much easier to cut close. It feels awkward at first but it's worth it in many areas.

I do two passes and many do three or more. How much comes off is whatever it is on the first WTG pass. If you are using a new blade in a Fusion and getting the same results with a straight maybe it is the way it is supposed to be ? Like the fellows said above skin stretching and technique are essential but if your getting the same results with you Fusion and a new blade ..... I wonder if it is not as it should be.

You need to shave with the grain to reduce the stubble not eliminate it. then you can shave across the grain to get cleaner shave and always keep skin taut. if you want ultra close shave shave against the grain if your skin can take it as a barber my self i never shave against the grain unless a customer insists. other wise i tell them to shave them selves if they want against the grain as it can cause iritation and blood spots which arn't nice.
