Default First Shave with 4/8 Blade

Well I finely got around to cleaning up and polishing a 4/8 Salamander Wedge I picked up a few months ago as part of a lot of razors I bought.

I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the shave and the precision of whipping the little fella around my face. I have a couple more 4/8 wedges of differing manufacture now I can't wait to clean them up and hone them also just to see if it was a fluke or not.

Not sure why everyone has to chase those big meat choppers when the little fella works so nice!!!

well you know some folks are always "compensating" which means the rest of us can have normal razors at a fair price.
    Be just and fear not.

I've had a 4/8 wedge and it was fun to shave with, there's something about the maneuverability of the "small" blade and the weight that made it an outstanding shaver, but in a moment of stupidity I sold it

I just finished shaving with a 4/8" Fox Cutlery and was browsing by. Cool.

The big blades are more impressive, but the small ones work a lot better at getting those tight angles on the jawline... it's great to have blades for every mood!

I have several 4/8's as well as the big fellows. I find I like the 4/8's on days where I don't have a lot of beard to shave off. I always use the big guys after I haven't shaved for a few days. I find that both types have different uses. There is nothing like a 4/8 for that quick touch up.

I too have a few 4/8 razors and they do shave well and feel like a sports car compared to an SUV. OTOH, I prefer a larger blade most of the time.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    Funny,

I got what very well might be the best shave of my life this morning. Great prep (had lots of time), a full weekend of growth, and a new 9/8 W. Greaves Fencing Foils wedge. That's a little over twice the razor! WOW! It weighted about six pounds, and cast a shadow oer my favwe as I shaved. Might take a little getting used to, but I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!
Might need to try some more reasonable sized wedges to see if I like them as much.

You see, that's the big secret around here that few appreciate. You can shave just as well with a 4/8s as with an 8/8s no matter how many days of growth or how tough your beard is. Ask any retired barber. he'll tell you.

I would say better, actually. You can work the angles so much more effectively with a small blade.
