Default Do you use the same lather consistancy for DE shaving and str8 shaving

May be a silly question. But I have been getting a good lather consistancy when I use the DE . I am just starting to use the str8s and find that the same lather is now not slippery enough. May need more water. I am sure that it is 95% my str8 shaving technique, but thought that I would ask those in the know.

It may be a silly question, but it's one I've been pondering too.

I've been using a touch more water for my lather when using a straight as opposed to a DE, partly because I feel I need less cushion, and partly because my technique is in its infancy so I need lather that stays on my skin longer and doesn't dry out in my semi arrid Colorado bathroom.

Consistency wise it is the same for me. Shaving with a str8 takes a bit longer, that's the only reason I see it might not become as slippery for you as you feel it is with a DE, it just dries up. When I feel it I just re-lather that part of the face and add another two drops of water in my lather mug.

I haven't used a DE for over thirty years, so I can't really say. I used the same lather for a straight as I used to use for my cartrige razor. Works fine for me.

Same, same. Sometimes I don't even use cream. Guys that think there should be a big difference worry me in the honing and stropping department.

I could see the lather being a little more "watery". Its a "whatever works for you problem". I can use can foam though too.

I almost never use a DE anymore, but when I started with the straight, I noticed that I preferred a lighter, slicker lather than with the DE. For the DE I like it a little denser and more cushiony. I think it's the greater feedback I like with the straight

    Whatever works...

I use the same exact stuff and the same exact consistency and it works fine for both modes.

Same here... Whatever works for you. But it has to be wet!

Maybe try using a pre-shave oil before you lather, like Art of Shaving or Caswell-Massey "1752"
