Source for moderately priced Alum block
I stopped by the Art of Shaving wanting to buy a large alum block. I was a bit scarred by the price. Could you suggest a good source?
Al raz.

Try an East Indian grocer--they often have cheap alum blocks. Or order from Giovanni at Razor and Brush. That's where I get mine.

If you have a Sephora near you (mostly a makeup supply store) check it out. Can't honestly remember the price, but they seem to be in every mall out here

Any Indian (the Asian kind) store will most likely carry alum. I got mine for $5

Another possibility, if you can get it over there is Crystal Spring natural body deodorant, comes in a stick and its shaped from pure crystalised salts of ammonium alum from Thailand. I have a couple of sticks of this, is it the same stuff? And what do you use it for? Is it just a post shave pore closer?

I don't really know what you mean with cheap, but the Dovo-blocks go for around 10-15€ and should last quite a while...

Ten bucks. It's the one I have. I like the sturdy plastic case it comes in. Really nice if you do alot of traveling.
