Default Is it ok to use a massage oil as a preshave oil?

I just got back from a trip to the local spa (My wife has a massage and I lay back, listen to music and have a nap) and I purchased a bottle of scented massage oil. I was planning to try it for beard prep before tomorrows shave. Has anyone else tried this or would anyone advise me against it?
I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Hey, why not! It can't be bad for your skin, so go for it! Let us know how she goes!

I don't think it can do you any harm, the only problem I see is if the oil doesn't absorb into your skin fast enough it will just mess up your lather. Still, do try it!

I tried it this morning. It didn't detract from the quallity of the lather but I think the benifits are minimal. But between the time I get out of the shower and put in my contacts so I can see where my face is I think my beard does dry out just a little. So the massage oild did help in this regard.
But I think this might be something I will keep for the weekend shave when I can take the time to really enjoy it.

The feeling I got was that most of the benefits of shave oils isn't when actually shaving, but more afterward, since the oil stick to your skin and makes it feel all slick and nice, not at all dry, as if you would have used some really expensive moisturizer. This was at least what I got when using TAoS PSO, which is ultra-thick, like really thick olive oil.

I tried olive oil just to compare it to TAOS oil, and TAOS was much better, compared to it the olive oil didn't do squat (under the lather that is, dunno how it would have worked on it's own...

Have anyone tried baby-oil? I read something about it somewhere here, but can't seem to find it again.

I will have to steal my wife's baby oil she uses for make up removal and try that. Thanks for the idea (I promise I won't tell my wife you gave me the idea)

Don't see any reason why not. That being said I have to say I don't use pre-shave oil anymore. I still have a half bottle of T&H oil. What with the hot shower, lather, hot towel and then re-lather I am not sure when would be the best time. And, to be perfectly honest, I found the pre-shave oil wasn't doing anything more to get my face ready for the shave anyway. My shave prep work accomplishes what I want.
