Thanked: 2Regular Shave Quality
I was curious as to how often you guys get a good shave. One that, if not completely BBS, is at least free from nicks and rash?

I voted for the second option. I rarely get a nick or even a weeper. BBS maybe 7 out of 10. I do two passes and could get bbs more often if I desired I suppose. I enjoy my shave and that is the important thing to me.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 2I've been using a straight for about 6 years
For a long time now i've been getting adequate shaves (in terms of closeness) free from nicks and grazes
I've recently taken more interest in it and am trying to perfect it.
As part of this process i'm now doing XTG and ATG as well as the WTG i was doing.
Hence a hell of a lot more nicks and grazes, although the ultra smoothness achieved is satisfying

I'm only on my 6th or so shave, so I get cuts occasionally, and still alot of irritation (my neck area is still getting used to it since I started with my cheeks). The cuts are usually very minor and not that big of a deal.

I've shaved with a straight razor every day (except once, for a test) since I have owned a sharp straight razor, which is Jan 5th, 2009. Never cut myself during a pass and getting better results every day. Cheeks are BBS, neck is 70% BBS, cheekbone, chin and mustache are ok to good and improving.
Off topic, but my skin look sooo much better!

I always get a great shave with no irritation. maybe once every 20 shaves or so if I'm not concentrating or going too fast I'll get a very minor nick and its always in one of about three places.

Thanked: 174I don't like the BBS description. For some reason I always think that BBS lies somewhere between comfortable and razor burn.
But most days I get a comfortable shave. I think I get less nicks with the straight than I did with a DE and I certainly rarely get razor burn unless I'm playing games with my hones.

I'm still green when it comes to straight razor shaving... only a few months.. maybe a hundred or so shaves..
finally things are starting to fall into place and I can finally start to see what the fuss is all about.
With my DE's and multi's that I use to use BBS was demanded of them and I would go over and over till I got what I was after...
Mostly I got more than I wanted ink: irritation big time!
So in my quest for ultimate comfort and closeness I have stayed with the tough learning curve with the straights and think finally I may see some major improvement!
It took me a long time to gather the guts to go ATG with the straight on the neck.. now, no prob!
my face stays soft and smooth for almost the whole day
I'll still pass on "the fools pass" for now ink:
Using the oil cleansing method for face care and the straight razor has given me just awesome skin and a happy wife AND a new hobby!

I don't think perfect smoothness from every direction everywhere on my neck and face is possible without severe irritation in spots
