Short Strokes
Well....
In my never ending learning curve, I have refined my technique a bit. I find that with my XTG strokes shorter is definitely better. I can achieve an almost BBS with a WTG and XTG passes.
I dont know if most people that use straight razors take bigger strokes, because i use to, but i literally almost do a buffing technique with the XTG stroke and its been leaving me pretty smooth.
I usually do a final XTG pass using a Water Pass. Whatever is left over on my face as far as lather goes...gets mixed with a Warm rinse and i do my final touchup.
Just wanted to pass this along to those of you starting out. or having some problems refining their techniques.

I use short strokes followed by a nice long clean up one. It just seems to get the stubble down nicely. I started that after reading some advice here somewhere.

Thanked: 101I use short strokes under the chin and on my neck ATG. I think it cuts down on discomfort.

Thanked: 1195Short strokes seem to work fine for me, but it's a matter of personal preference.
And......... just because no one else has said it yet....... different strokes for different folks!!!
I'm waiting for the collective groan for that one........

Mark, you just had to make a bad situation worse didnt ya?

Going back to the topic at hand...
I also find using short strokes gives me a smoother shave with less irritation. I think it is partly because I am better able to stretch the skin in the area I am shaving than I would with a long stroke.

I've always used short strokes and liked it best. Experimented with long strokes and ended up slashing my cheeks twice - not doing that again.
