Thanked: 0The Horror and the Bloodshed
Straight razor shaving is not for clumsy people. If you are a normally good shaver, but you are feeling clumsy, put it down!
Even from my very first newbie shave, I have never seriously cut my face. It has been a smooth and easy learning process for me from the beginning. But tonight, I was absolutely clumsy and ended up with three band-aids on three different fingers! There is not a nick on my face, but my fingers are sure going to be sore for a few days.
I got the first two fingers in a single swipe. I was holding the razor in my left hand and was getting ready to set it down. I was bringing my right hand up at the same time to check the shave on my face. I sliced the razor right across my middle and index finger on my right hand.
The next accident came when I was drying my razor off. I was holding the tang and lower end of the spine in my right hand and had a hold of the scales with my left. I was holding the razor stationary and using my free fingers to move the towel over the razor. The spine and tang slipped out of fingers and came crashing down on top of my index finger on my left hand where it was curled around the scales.
Fortunately, no need for stitches, but I thought you all might get enjoy a laugh at my dumb clumsiness.

I would use a little lighter touch with the Slice Across the Fingers Test [SAFT]. Yes we have to be reminded from time to time that our blades are ment to be cutting something. Hope you heal up soon.

Thanked: 41This must have been the day for booboos. For the first time I poked the razor into my chin. I do know that this is not an acceptable shaving technique, but as I was approaching the chin the razor had a mind of it's own.Had to apply pressure to stop the red stuff and had to finish the shave, WORK, you know. Just wondering if there is a str8 razor god? Or maybe razor gremlins

Thanked: 77Ouch! There's an article in the wiki about tightening pins. I have all my razors so there is just a bit of resistance. The blade won't open or close with gravity alone.

I'll never admit to performing the well known SAFT at least once...oops, too late. On the plus side, razor cuts tend to heal really fast. Welcome to the club.
