    Default One happy noob

I have been shaving with a straight razor (a cheapo shavette with the 7 o'clock blades) for about a week and I had a pretty good shave this afternoon when I got in from college after an early start.

Anyway it just occurred to me that it would be pretty easy to test how good a shave I got, so I broke out the shaving cream and my Gillette Mach 3 'fusion' (the 5 blade wet razor that vibrates) and had a shave.

I'm happy to report I did not shave a single hair off my face, not that I could see at least and my face feels the same.

There really is something to this straight shaving lark. Really looking forward to get my 'proper' one.

If you are on a budget look in the classifieds. Really good bargains in there, and will not be junk. Our members have reputations to protect. Kenru (a member here in the Vendor's Corner) also sells really good quality starter sets.

I'm getting a razor from Leighton, and I sent kenrup an email earlier about postage costs and will be buying one of his starter strops this weekend hopefully.

I'm just happy I'm getting some decent shaves, and enjoying it.

congratulations on your successfull shave gregs

Yesterday I started out with the dorko but after the WTG pass I decided it wasnt sharp enough (messed up with stropping this time when I lifted the spine on the first lap) It wasnt terribly off but just enough to get the shavette..

I had a wonderfull shave without any nics or irritations and the shave was frightningly close... I think the feather blades have built up a reputation among the whiskers so they just dig themselves in in my face and some of the brave whiskers just barely dare to show up the next day.

So tonight I will be honing the Dorko a bit... I love that smell of fresh BBW slurry in the evening..

I'm sure you will enjoy your real straight as much as I do...

    Maarten
