Thanked: 0Popped my cherry
I just shaved with a straight for the first time. My wife said " I liked you better with a bottom lip. na, just kidding. Amazingly, I only nicked myself twice. Some of my face is smooter than it has ever been and I completely missed other spots. It sure does burn though. It felt like the razor was pulling the hair on my upper lip rather than cutting it. maybe the angle was wrong. The razor is sharp. It was honed by someone who knows what they are doing. It also passed the "hanging hair test".I know that this is an art so I will stick with it. Im glad I did so much research and read this forum before attempting that or I surely would be on my way to the emergency room.

Not bad for a first try, I'd say!

I had that same problem with my upper lip pulling, hurts like all get out. Between watching Lynn's video and my own experience, the best way to make life easier is to keep the upper lip taut, and do short or slow strokes. In time it gets a lot easier though.

Load with moisturiser all the time, but not while shaving. It helped me while learning the ropes...
For shaving, you want a good shaving soap, with some clay in it (bentonite in most cases) to hep the razor glide on the skin.
Good luck
