If the Feather AC is a little rich for your blood, as it was for mine, you might consider a Sanguine XD20. It takes 1/2 a DE blade, and is of a solid construction that gives it much the same weight and balance as a small 5/8ths straight. Over all, it's a good tool for around $20.

I've just started learning to shave with a cut throat and bought a Shavette with the full size dovo razor blades. Reason was I will end up buying an old straight razor and learn to hone and strop myself, but have the shavette to keep learning how to shave. Today was my sixth time shaving, I got a bbs finish and no nicks on a WTG & ATG. But when I first started I was using Baxter shaving cream, I put it on with a brush and my face started stinging then I went to shave and got through it with red leaks everywhere :P
I decided to go buy some soap and learned to make a lather. Really enjoying the experiance now. Can't wait to get my first straight razor and try it.
Also I can see the shavette being handy for traveling.

Thanked: 1I've been using staright for some year's now and tried a shavette for first time some weeks ago, my conclusions:
Lightest touch, minimul pressure - be careful.
Close shave.
If you can learn to use one of these, you will get the straight down cold.
impressed - yes.
