New Equipment -- Filarmonica Doble Temple and Vulfix Super

Among my latest arrivals from classicshaving.com are a Filarmonica "Doble Temple" 7/8 (nearly 8/8) and a Vulfix Super Badger brush.

Wow!

The quality difference is worth it, as far as brushes go.

Seriously, I thought it was rather silly at first... that the difference between a boar bristle and super badger would be of any consequence.

It's like night and day.

The lather is obscenely... lathery.

Super Badger is the way to go. I say so by personal experience.

I also really like the size and weight of the Filarmonica, not to mention its nicely curved scimitar geometry. The factory hone was impressive, and I plan to improve upon this in the coming days. It really is a different feel from my 5/8 razors. Yet it still has an awesome dexterity that can finely shape my goatee.

I am curious... can anyone tell me more about the Filarmonica brand/company history?

Nice buy io the Filarmonica. I just got one a few weeks ago from Ross Cutlery in Calif. except mine has the gold washed blade. Huge razor! Very thin blade on mine so I get that hair popping sound when I shave.

I though am still not swayed by the Badger. I now own 3 differnt ones, all expensive and just like the extra stiffness of a bristle brush. I will say there is as much variation in bristle as there seems to be in badger. My Surry was okay, my Burma shave supreme! It gets better with age too as it softens just a touch and spreads wider. For me the badger just seem too soft but I will say it feels silky against my face when I do use them.

Any newbie really needs to own one of each so they can really decide which is best for them.

Danist: I don't know how the Filarmonica would compare to some of the other well-known blades, but I heartily concur about the brush. I've compared the various brushes out there, and none hold a candle to the super badger for lathering up one's kisser. I use my Burma Shave for a general cleansing brush, but my Vulfix is my go-to for shaving. The boar and best badger brushes just don't cut it for the real deal. Both of those brushes shed water with dismaying regularity. Congratulations on going with the ultimate shaving brush.
