    Default I did my bit

On the news this morning they were featuring Hair M, the place I go to get my hair cut. They do straight shaves there or so I thought. They did a piece on it and they were using a shavette!!!

I knew I had to do something quickly before anyone else got the idea that this is how barbers treat their clients.

I fired off an email letting them know that I saw the segment and took issue with there choice of shaving instrument and the manner in which they shave the client.

The lady was using short strokes on the same section, literally scraping the skin off. No fluid movement etc.

I directed them to a website that sells Feathers and Mr. Cs. I also directed to the Archive.org website with the Barber's Manual on it.

I offered my assistance to help if they needed it.

I hope, but doubt that I will get a call back or an email. Hell they may blackball me from coming back.

I received a response back from HairM. They did not black ball me. They thanked me and said they would pass the information onto the trainers.

I, of course, volunteered my services to show them how it is done. I can't shave anyone, its illegal as I am not licensed. But I can shave myself and they can take notes of blade position, grip, etc..

You never now whats around that bend till you look.

Most every company I've read about who are still shaving are using shavettes. Though some of those have agreed to use the customers own razor.

Either way, it was worth sending the email. Might be worth taking in a razor next time you have a hair cut, if they offer the service then someone there must have an interest.

There are two places here that I know of that use str8s to shave. HairM and Chopperz. Chopperz uses a Feather and HairM uses a shavette.

I brought my razor at my last hair cut and the lady, she is fresh out of school could not get over the weight and size of a 6/8 barbers notch. She did not use it.

I'll bring the 4/8 Union Cutlery Spike next time. Maybe I can get her to use that one.
