Gentlemen and, of course, ladies,

Since no great wet shave is complete without that final embrace from your favorite aftershave or cologne, perhaps you might be interested in the book "A Natural History of the Senses" by Diane Ackerman (Vintage Books, 1990).

A chapter of this most fascinating book on the senses is devoted to the sense of smell. In segments such as "A Map of Smell," "The Personality of Smell" and "Roses" Ms. Ackerman sheds light on what smells are and how we sense them.

No, this is not a book about aftershaves, colognes or perfumes. Here, you will not find anything about Taylor of Old Bond Street, Geo F Trumper, Truefitt & Hill or all the other providers of men's shaving toys. Rather, the book gives you an understanding of the world of smells.

I found the entire book fascinating, and particularly the chapter on the sense of smell, since I, too, hail from the ranks of the world's noble wet shavers.

Regards,

Obie
