Has anyone used or found a way to use the powdered alum?

I'd use it as I do talc.
I have never used it powdered but that would be my first inclination. Paste second if need be. Hell you could mix it with your lather.

The idea is to use a minuscule quantity. if you use the powdered stuff you will be using way too much. if you wind up looking like Frankenstein don't say we didn't warn you.

I don't use it on myself, but have used it on animals if we cut their nails too short when trimming. Just put it on the area you are concerned about. If you want to use it all over you face, it makes sense to me to mix it with cornstarch. I'd start with 2 parts cornstarch to 1 part alum and adjust as seems appropriate.
Talc is bad for your lungs, so I wouldn't get it near the mouth or nose
