It had to happen...
Well... do you know that feeling that warns you that a bad thing - a terrifying thing - is lurking about? I've been having that for quite some time now... so I decided to use my DE for a while, under the excuse that I was in a rush... However, yesterday, I decided that I was going to brake out my Dovo and shave like a man. The prep was great, the blade was keen and well stropped. The shave was going smoothly. And then disaster struck!
As I was going for some blade buffing on my chin, my left index finger and the blade had a very close encounter! I know that these things are sharp... but I found out that they are "no-pain" sharp! I only knew that the cut was bad because I started gushing blood and I felt the steel on my finger bone! A very strnge feeling... And my first thought was "Do not drop the razor! You don't want to nick the blade..." Then I shouted to call my friend and room mate, a medical student, so that he could assist me. And he did... I had to go to the hospital, of course. But I finished the shave with the DE, cleaned everything up and dressed as ususal. The result was 6 striches on a cut deep to the bone and almost an inch long. Cool!
And because I'm very calm and non-tragic, after I came from the hospital I went to class and in the evening, I cooked dinner for some friends and cleaned up afterwards...
Well... no biggie! I just wanted to share the experience.
Oh! And I learned a very important thing: when cooking risotto always stir with the same pace. It does make a difference when it comes to the gradual cooking of the risotto rice... that and always be aware of the location of the razor in relation to your moving body parts... such as fingers.Last edited by fpessanha; 05-23-2009 at 12:45 PM. Thanked: 3795Do you finally get it?
Do you understand?
This never would have happened if you hadn't used the DE. You made your straight jealous and you forced it to remind you who's the boss. Don't forget again!

The funny thing was that when I went to get my six stiches, this friend of mine who is a medical student came with me through the whole process wearing is white coat and the stetoscope around his neck... We were looking quite formal. I was wearing my "prince of wales" suit and my moustache with great panache (in a quite theatrical way... one needs to have fun while living a tragedy! ) and had a doctor following me around as if I were a very important person. We were atracting quite a bit of attention... especially because he would go speak with the doctors informing them of my arrival and so forth. I was bloody good fun! (Pun very much intended!)
Hospitals are very depressing and filled with people that whine a lot trying to call attention to themselves even though they are only suffering from minor maladies... Plus, the doctors don't really help out. They do their jobs allright but they make the people feel like rubbish. The doctor that stiched me up - a very nice and young intern surgeon called Sheilla (though she is Portuguese... go figure!) had to be dealt with in a gentlemanly, though a bit rispid manner so that she would take care of me as if I were a person and not a number. I learned that saying something along the lines of "I'm sorry, I didn't quite get YOUR name, Doctor..." is enough to get better treatment.
After that, the nurse that came into the room to put the bandage on my finger, bursted in mocking my name (I kid you not...) - which is quite a long one... - and I got a bit annoyed. So when she asked how I got the nasty cut I said: "I had a fight with a shark. You should have seen the shark...". This made her ignore any further explanations on the subject, discarting the truth: "It was an unfortunate shaving accident".

Interesting story although I am sorry to hear about your finger...You seemed to take it with a grain of salt. Ooohh that would sting in a cut, salt...
