Default I have comitted a sin and now I'm paying in blood.

I haven't had a lot of luck with my shaves in the past few days. At least twice this week I nicked my neck and ended up with a bloody collar.
Then two days ago I was shaving when my mother in-law was cooking. Where I live, with my in-laws, the only place to shave is in the kitchen. So I was shaving and my mother in-law was standing next to me cooking some Chinese thing that smelt bad in a huge wok. I'm quite used to distractions when I shave, but what happened next was too much. While I was carefully negotiating my chin, my mother in-law whacked the wok with a the wok shovel thingy. Just at that moment I sliced off a pimple sized chunk of skin.
And this mornings shave I managed to nick my cheek. This is something that I have never done before. The cheek is the easiest place to shave. I could shave my cheek with a broken beer bottle while blindfolded and not cut myself there. But today the razor was thirsty for blood.
Each of these times I have bled like a stuck pig. Even when the cuts weren't bad, I still bled like I had cut off an ear.
Have I done something to annoy the razor gods? Could my high blood pressure be making me bleed more?

High blood pressure would make you bleed less I would have thought.

Maybe you just need to kick back for a day or two and come back to it, no point forcing the issue - esp when the issue is so sharp!

It doesn't sound like your shaving environment is a good one. You really need to either find a quiet place or at least shave when no one is mucking about.

They used to say, and probably still do, that when you get confident enough to lose respect for a motorcycle is when you are in danger. Maybe the same could be said for shaving with a straight razor ? I have made a point of allowing enough no pressure time to have my daily shave. I approach it as a sort of quiet time and totally focus on what I am doing. I live alone save for my cat and he knows enough to chill while I shave. Not a meow out of him. The thing in my sig line is for real too. I never force a razor if it pulls and hold it securely but loosely enough for it to flex. But i repeat myself. I hope your future shaves are better than the fore mentioned ones.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    +1

My worst shaving related cut came from getting over confident with shaving my neck.

It's one thing to shave in the kitchen, it's another thing to shave in the kitchen while somebody is busy cooking.

I don't know about blood pressure, but I do know about the sins we commit against dangerous tools, and straight shaving while someone is standing next to you cooking; is breaking the first commandment of dangerous tools.

    Thou shalt respect thy tool!

    Unless you're on blood thinners

    + 100 on a distraction free environment..

Unfortunatly there is no such thing as a distraction free environment here. As it is I have to get up before 0530hrs in order to even get into the shower. I could try shaving at night, but then instead of putting up with people cooking during my shave I would have them shouting and screaming at each other during my shave.
If I really want a disraction free shave environment I have to wait until my wife and I move into our new house in about a year or two.

Now that seems like an answer....lol. I find if I am distracted my shave is less than perfect with more blood than needed. Threaten your mother-in-law with your razor if she continues to make noise...
I would think high blood pressure would make you bleed more...

    Good luck.

The worst sin for me is to bragg to a friend or co-worker about how great it is to shave with a straight and then show up the next day with an serious shaving cut. That pretty much satisfies them that you're an idiot just like they always suspected!

Amen to this. I've done it at least 3 times in 2 months.
