    Default First FULL shave

Welp, I got my "new" razor from Vgod today and decided I needed a shave...and I did.

    Razor: RB&R 5/8 Spike Point
    Shave cream: Neutrogena for men

This razor is almost identical to the one my great grandpa had. The only difference is the markings and the fact that the blade isn't ground nearly half way down.

I didn't have the ideal shave cream but I made it work. I added more hot water to it than I normally would and it slicked right up.

I did one WTG pass today and stopped. I felt doing the second pass would be pushing my luck right now. Still, with just the one pass I got a nice shave. I still have some shadow but I think 98% of that is just my lack of technique.

Yup...Spiky got me. But only once. Aside from the two pimples I didn't know I had there was very little in the way of bleeding. No burn, no razor bumps and when I put on the after shave instead of 30 minutes of fiery pain I felt a nice cool, tingly sensation.

For my first full shave I'm very happy with the results even though I still have some shadow left. It's at least as close as my electric was.

Thanks to the SRP members that share there experiences and thank you Vgod for putting up the nice razor.

I used my great grandpa's old Russian Leather strop. I'm going to make one of my own as soon as I can. There is a thread about "bench hone" style strops in another section I'm going to give a shot when I can buy the materials.

Until then I'm going to use the GEM Micromatic SE my dad gave me today. It'll make a nice back up to my straight.

Oh and my vintage NIB Ruby Razor hone is coming in the mail soon!

Measuring your success one step at a time is very wise! Good Luck!
