Thanked: 8My Dovo came with a travel case. I have taken my TM Vegan Strop. Last time I had trouble using it because the bathroom door would not stay closed. I had to keep one foot on the door because the door knob was busted. I also had a 8K slipstone which I did not need.
Next time I will take a pasted travel strop, and not bother with the slipstone.
For flying I have a double bladed cartridge razor, or a feather portable DE, or a gillette travel de.

Thanked: 20This is my travel set. Inspired by the Sacramenga box I modified an old barbers case from an estate. Since I usually cut my own hair I made provision for scissors also. I don't travel much and it usually only goes as far as an upper shelf when grandchildren visit but if called upon, I figure I can be gone for a long time.

Here is my shaving related stuff that I keep in my travel kit.
Seat belt strop
Shave stick
Tooth brush holder with beater razor inside
Omega brush
Gold bond lotion
The Omega brush dries super fast and is tuff. I throw it and the “strop” in my bag without any protection. What can I say about the gold bond lotion as an aftershave, (my mileage varies, I love the stuff).

Thanked: 77Thanks for your responses - a great variety of ways to travel with a straight! I particularly like the ultra compact and economical ones. (Though I also like the touches of luxury).
Charlie - how do you find the seat belt strop? Can't get much more portable than that.
All the best,
Michael.Last edited by FTG; 07-21-2009 at 09:38 AM.

A seat belt makes an OK strop. It works, but it is not as good as nice leather or leather cloth combo. It is more than adequate for short term use but I would not want to use it for months on end. I would give it an A- or B if had to give it a grade.
Here is a thread where I reviewed the strop. post#22

I work out of town for 21 days at a time. On this trip I have brought with me!!!!
3 pucks of soap
3" red latigo strop
28mm silvertip
20mm best badger
1 tube of cream
2 dubl ducks
1 dovo
1 cmon
1 henckels
alum block
Bay rum after shave!!
GP scuttle
All my razors fit in a plastic case I travel with it just tucks in my bag
I wrapped my scuttle in a shirt and placed it in my bag!
The rest of my stuff fits in a shaving bag that I have.
I drive everywhere I go so I can hang my strop and see where my bags are at all time so it is easy for me to travel with so much equipment.
That and I have so much trouble deciding what to bring I just grab a bunch and go!!!

Thanked: 77A great razor storage idea!
Just found this post by Seraphim, using cigar caddy as razor storage - looks really smart!

Thanked: 77My travel kit
First plan - make box from recycled red gum post
I was planning to make my own razor travel box, using some old red gum posts I had - after finishing the cutting of pieces and doing a mock up of the box (taping it together) - I found it to be on the too heavy for travel side. But I'll find another use for my cut timber...
Plan B - find a ready made box (and modify if needed)
Meanwhile - I found a nice 'bridge' box in a cheap shop. So I set about modifying it.
After a bit of searching I found a plastic jewellry box with a decent mirror in it - $2.
I wanted it secure - so my 3 & 1/2 yr old didn't get to my razors: I ended up using some picture hanging wire and loops.
Here's the travel box (and friends):
...and the last one is Plan C: travelling 3rd class, limited space in bag!

How Do You Dot It?
Gentlemen,
My leather hanging travel kit holds everything for long trips. For overnights, a small kit, slightly larger than a school pencil pouch, works just fine. When flying, I pack both kits in my suitcase, since they hold blades.
Razor: Feather AC straight, and a Merkur travel double edge in case I am short on time.
Brush: Badger and part of a chrome set that screws into a tube and is housed in a beautiful leather case. (Unfortunately the set comes with a chrome Mach 3 and can't take a straight or double edge. Still, I keep the set together.) I keep the brush warm in a hotel coffee mug, and make lather directly on the face, as usual.
Soap: Caswell-Massey in travel plastic container, or Pre de Provence in travel metal can. Also, I take several sample-size high quality brushless shave creams in case short on time.
Aftershave: Depends on my mood, but usually several small bottles, or a single big one.
For the small overnight kit, I modify everything. For instance, I take the brush chrome tube and leave its leather kit. Travel shaving takes a lot of improvisation, but a good shave is worth all the planning.
