    Default First Silvertip - Latherhog

Ok so I was pleased to wake up this morning to a package on my front step. I knew exactly what it was, because I was only waiting on one package that I had not recieved yet (it's been a while since I have only been waiting on one item - maybe I have a problem... o well).
To get to the point it was a brush I had ordered off the classifieds here from Lynn and Don. I have been using the same brush since I stared shaving (a vulfix pure badger brush) and was getting the itch to buy a silvertip.
Of course I shaved immediately. Wow - first of all, I love the brush. It's big for one, and very soft. Feels great. However, I had to get use to the fact that I needed to learn how to make lather with a brush this big. Took a little longer than usual, and I found that most of the lather ended up being held in the brush rather than left in the bowl. Not that that was a bad thing.
All in all, definately glad to have upgraded. Thanks Lynn and Don for a great brush. Now all I have to worry about is developing BAD along with my RAD.

I got the other silvertip that was being sold with it. The silvertip upgrade is awesome. Its super soft and huge. The lather is hard to build though but overall the brush is great. Congrats on your buy.

I agree that the lather is a bit harder to build, but it is definately worth it. I find that I don't have to go back to the bowl as often though, as the brush holds a lot of lather in the bristles.
Also, glad to see that other brush found a good home. If I had known how much I was going to like this one I would have bought them both.

Nice brush. It would be great to get a nice silvertip like this one.

My old faithful best pure badger brush has been fantastic and I always wondered if a silvertip would be worth the expense.

Whew! That is a fluffy one!
Ya can definately tell the difference in the two brushes posted. If i wasn't so deadly stricken by HAD, i'd have to give one of those a go.
Congrats and glad ya like it.

    Thanks,

    Mac

Gloss finished Gabon ebony. That would be a 28mm and they are huge. I have a couple of them. Toss the brush in your mug full of hot water and let it soak for 5 or so. I put my brush in the mug and let it soak while I shower. Give it one or two shakes to get the excess water out of it after you take it out of the mug. One of they keys with those big knots is to use a big frothing container. My usual mug is almost to small, I have a larger shaving bowl that I turned that I use specifically for those 28's.

I use SRD's soap. After I put the brush in the mug of water to soak while I shower, I put an ounce or so of hot water in the soap and let it soak/soften as well. I dump the water into the bowl, shake the brush and then hit the soap for 4 or 5 swirls around the puck. That loads the brush with plenty of soap. Slowly swirl the brush in the soap water. It will work up some big soap bubbles but that is fine for now. The brush will suck up most of that water. Add another half ounce or so and start whisking the brush in the bowl. That will start to whip up a tight foam. The brush will soak most of that up as well. I ususlly add water a couple of times while I whisk the brush. In the end you will end up with a little lather in the bowl but the brush will hold onto most of it.

That is not really a problem. I find that if I keep adding water and hit the soap once more I will end up with a nice mound of soap. Now for the catch, you will never use all that soap. The brush holds enough for me to lather up twice and most of that extra soap ends up going down the sink. I can lather half my face in two passes with that big boy. It is like soaping up with a mop.

Once you are finished, rinse well, shake out the excess water from the brush, wipe off the handle to get the soap film off and set it on the shelf for the next day. If you want a nice scrubby but soft silvertip try out the SRD#2. The knot is set deep in the handle and hold the brush tight. It does not bloom as much but has a very nice scrubby feel to work the lather in. Particularly nice if you go a couple days without a shave. It really works the lather into the heavy stubble.
